‘I’m not threatened!’

Filipino-American hottie Gerald Anderson sees no competition in the new batch of equally good-looking showbiz potentials

There was a time when Gerald Anderson was just another good-looking showbiz wannabe.

Now, two years after he and Kim Chiu rose to prominence through Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition (PBBTE), another batch of teens is raring to take their place. You’d think a new batch of 14 housemates-all equally good-looking and with strong showbiz potentials-would make Gerald nervous, but he’s not, says the Filipino-American hottie.

Gerald and Kim were guests during the opening of the new season of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus last Sunday. They performed a dance number along with fellow PBBTE finalist Mikee Lee and Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 housemates Riza Santos and Will Devaughn.

At a birthday press conference tendered by Star Magic for its March 2008 birthday celebrators (Gerald celebrated his birthday March 7), members of the press got the chance to ask Gerald for his thoughts about the entry of a new batch of housemates. For sure, these housemates will eventually become competition for Gerald, Kim and the other PBBTE Season One housemates. But Gerald, who was one of the finalists of PBBTE in 2006, says he doesn’t feel threatened at all. He is very secure in his position and in what he has achieved so far.

In the short time that he’s been in showbiz, Gerald has already starred in a primetime series (Sana Maulit Muli), a box-office hit movie (I’ve Fallen For You, with Kim Chiu) and is set to star opposite Kim in ABS-CBN’s remake of the hit Koreanovela My Girl. Very soon, he and Kim will also be seen regularly in Maligno, the second installment in the Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Cinema Collection.

The entry of a new batch of housemates doesn’t really worry him. “I was there at the opening, and they’re really great,” says Gerald of the new teen housemates. “But I think that after two years, I’ve already proven myself.”

On April 19, 18 na si Kim Chiu. It is at this age, according to Gerald Anderson, that she told him na puwede na siyang ligawan.

It’s not the usual thing daw na may 18 roses, candles and the like. Basta, magugulat na lang daw tayo.

By the way, final nang in-announce ng ABS-CBN na si Gerald ang magiging leading man ni Kim sa Pinoy adaptation ng Koreanovelang My Girl.

Gerald chosen to play male lead in Pinoy version of "My Girl"

It's my first time kasi. Oh, I have to go through some workshop para mag-mature ang acting ko and internally na rin," bungad ni Gerald sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

Sinimulan na rin daw ni Gerald na panoorin ang Korean version ng My Girl and so far, nasa seventh episode na siya.

"It's very good. I really like Julian's character. He's very strong and affectionate also," sambit ng young actor.

PBB TEEN PLUS.

Kim Chiu Lands Lead Role for Philippine's My Girl
( amped ASIA ) 03.07.08

Philippine's ABS-CBN has secured the franchise for the 2006 hit Korean series "My Girl" from South Korea's SBS, which will be aired sometime this year. This type of collaboration between two giant television networks is a first between the two Asian countries.

The role of Yoo Rin, also known as Jasmine by Filipino fans which was originally played by Lee Da Hae, will be played by Kim Chiu while the rest of the cast is yet to be announced. Kim Chiu hoped that Gong Chan a.k.a. Julian, which was originally played by Lee Dong Wook, will be played by his love team, Gerald Anderson.

Kim Chiu, the first Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition winner, was shocked to discover that she had the part and said giddily in an interview: "Sobrang thank you po sa lahat. Thank you po sa fans, sa ABS-CBN... it's another wish granted." (Translation: "Thank you very much to everyone. Thank you to all of my fans, to ABS-CBN... it's another wish granted.")
