‘I’m not threatened!’
Aprylle Liabres ( City Times ) 03.31.08

Filipino-American hottie Gerald Anderson sees no competition in the new batch of equally good-looking showbiz potentials

There was a time when Gerald Anderson was just another good-looking showbiz wannabe.

Now, two years after he and Kim Chiu rose to prominence through Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition (PBBTE), another batch of teens is raring to take their place. You’d think a new batch of 14 housemates-all equally good-looking and with strong showbiz potentials-would make Gerald nervous, but he’s not, says the Filipino-American hottie.

Gerald and Kim were guests during the opening of the new season of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus last Sunday. They performed a dance number along with fellow PBBTE finalist Mikee Lee and Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 housemates Riza Santos and Will Devaughn.

At a birthday press conference tendered by Star Magic for its March 2008 birthday celebrators (Gerald celebrated his birthday March 7), members of the press got the chance to ask Gerald for his thoughts about the entry of a new batch of housemates. For sure, these housemates will eventually become competition for Gerald, Kim and the other PBBTE Season One housemates. But Gerald, who was one of the finalists of PBBTE in 2006, says he doesn’t feel threatened at all. He is very secure in his position and in what he has achieved so far.

In the short time that he’s been in showbiz, Gerald has already starred in a primetime series (Sana Maulit Muli), a box-office hit movie (I’ve Fallen For You, with Kim Chiu) and is set to star opposite Kim in ABS-CBN’s remake of the hit Koreanovela My Girl. Very soon, he and Kim will also be seen regularly in Maligno, the second installment in the Sineserye Presents: The Susan Roces Cinema Collection.

The entry of a new batch of housemates doesn’t really worry him. “I was there at the opening, and they’re really great,” says Gerald of the new teen housemates. “But I think that after two years, I’ve already proven myself.”

On April 19, 18 na si Kim Chiu. It is at this age, according to Gerald Anderson, that she told him na puwede na siyang ligawan.

It’s not the usual thing daw na may 18 roses, candles and the like. Basta, magugulat na lang daw tayo.

By the way, final nang in-announce ng ABS-CBN na si Gerald ang magiging leading man ni Kim sa Pinoy adaptation ng Koreanovelang My Girl.

Gerald chosen to play male lead in Pinoy version of "My Girl"
Julie Bonifacio ( PEP ) 03.30.08

It's my first time kasi. Oh, I have to go through some workshop para mag-mature ang acting ko and internally na rin," bungad ni Gerald sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

Sinimulan na rin daw ni Gerald na panoorin ang Korean version ng My Girl and so far, nasa seventh episode na siya.

"It's very good. I really like Julian's character. He's very strong and affectionate also," sambit ng young actor.

PBB TEEN PLUS.

Kim Chiu Lands Lead Role for Philippine's My Girl
( amped ASIA ) 03.07.08

Philippine's ABS-CBN has secured the franchise for the 2006 hit Korean series "My Girl" from South Korea's SBS, which will be aired sometime this year. This type of collaboration between two giant television networks is a first between the two Asian countries.

The role of Yoo Rin, also known as Jasmine by Filipino fans which was originally played by Lee Da Hae, will be played by Kim Chiu while the rest of the cast is yet to be announced. Kim Chiu hoped that Gong Chan a.k.a. Julian, which was originally played by Lee Dong Wook, will be played by his love team, Gerald Anderson.

Kim Chiu, the first Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition winner, was shocked to discover that she had the part and said giddily in an interview: "Sobrang thank you po sa lahat. Thank you po sa fans, sa ABS-CBN... it's another wish granted." (Translation: "Thank you very much to everyone. Thank you to all of my fans, to ABS-CBN... it's another wish granted.")

Sam para ra gyud ni Anne!
Sanden Anadia ( PhilStar.com ) 03.30.08
(Article translated by lonesomedove)

“From the very beginning, it has always been a Gerald-Kim project. We were very definite from the beginning. My God, how many many endorsements does this couple have at the moment? How many advertisers are waiting for this chance to see them again on primetime and are promising us their full support?

Alyanna who?

"I’ll be playing Julian in the teleserye and since Julian is supposedly 23 years old sa series and already a corporate man, malaking adjustments ang dapat gawin ko about myself para maging kapani-paniwala ako sa aking role. I just turned 19 last March 7,” say pa ni Gerald.

Kimerald visits 'the lost Boy' of Philippine showbiz
Boy villasanta ( ABS-CBN News Online ) 03.28.08

He's all but forgotten in the world of showbusiness and the larger world outside of the silver screen and the boob tube. After all, who today remembers the line producer behind immortal films like "Bayan Ko, Kapit Sa Patalim" and "Orapronobis"? Do people still remember him as a former president of the Philippine Movie Press and the former public relations officer and manager of Nora Aunor, Lino Brocka, Phillip Salvador, Hilda Koronel, Alma Moreno, Christopher de Leon, Carmi Martin, Tessie Tomas, Helen Vela and Coney Reyes, among others.

Filipinos today, of course, only have one Boy in mind when it comes of Philippine showbiz: Boy Abunda, proudly Samar born and bred, head honcho of the talent management company Backroom, Inc. and now talk show host and celebrity endorser.

There was a time, however, during the 1970s and 1980s, when the Boy of local showbiz was Boy C. de Guia. De Guia started out as a member of the entertainment press but became more involved as a producer, talent manager and talk show host.

Today, de Guia is a resident of the Golden Acres Home for the Aged. He's all alone now, just another toothless, penniless old man who relies on charity to live out his last days on Earth.

Showbusiness loves winners and forgets losers--it glories in youth, beauty, sex and fame and automatically shuns sad stories. So it's no wonder that after de Guia went bankrupt after losing millions of pesos in failed television productions during the 1990s, he fell through the cracks, as they say, and no one bothered to remember him again.

Homeless and reduced to a pauper, de Guia found his way to the Golden Acres. No one knows or seems to care that he once hosted the top-rating entertainment talk show "Scoop" with Lolit Solis in Channel 13. He hosted other programs like "CinemaScoop" in Channel 2 and spent his own money producing "Starwatch" and "StarBrighters" on Channel 4 (Lesson: Spend other people's money on your TV productions).

De Guia was also happy that two of todays hottest stars, the romantic tandem of Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu, also paid him a visit. The showbiz teen couple, who almost never leave each other's side, have become so identified with one another that their fans have given them a collective identity as "Kimerald"--yes, in the same tradition that turned out Brangelina (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) or Bennifer (Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner).

Kimerald went to the Golden Acres as part of the socio-civic efforts they usually do during Holy Week (something that the couple, admirably, does not brag about) and were shocked at finding out that de Guia--formerly one of the brightest names in showbiz--is one of the lolos (old men) in the old folks' home.

De Guia told the teen couple that, as past president of the PMPC, he was one of those who voted for them as Best New Male and Best New Female Movie Personalities.

(Kim is so beautiful and Gerald is handsome. They will surely last in show biz)," predicted the former starmaker.

Nel Alejandrino ( Journal Online ) 03.30.08
Kim Chiu believes na kahit pa from among the new female housemates na kasalukuyang inaalagaan ni Big Brother sa kanyang house ay may magkapalad na maging artista, hindi pa rin siya pababayaan ng ABS- CBN.

Ang feeling nga ni Kim, the network has given her more than enough.

In between those assignments, may commercials pa courtesy ng kanyang management company, Star Magic.

So far, nakagawa na si Kim ng dalawang movies, First Day High at I've Fallen for You. In both films, she had fellow PBB housemate Gerald Anderson, who placed second to her, as leading man.

Kim is excited to start work on her newest teleserye, My Girl, an adaptation of a Koreanovela na ipinalabas dito sa Pilipinas last year.

Ayon kay Kim, until it was announced during a presscon for her and Yeng Constantino, Grand Winner ng Pinoy Dream Academy, she didn't have a hunch that she will be handpicked for My Girl’s female lead role.

Well, at the presscon naman for Gerald, her leading man in My Girl, a smiling Kim surprised the actor with her presence.

They happen to be together, too, in the horror series, Maligno, with Claudine Barretto.

Star Magic marches on with talents born in March
( Manila Standard Today ) 03.29.08
Gerald Anderson

From being one of the original Pinoy Big Brother Teen housemates to being one of the most in demand actors today, Gerald Anderson has gone a long way in the business. This 19-year-old mestizo from General Santos can boast of a number of accomplishments. Aside from Asap ’08, he was also seen in several projects with Kim Chiu namely Sana Maulit Muli, First Day High and I’ve Fallen For You. He also has dance albums which were consistent in the hit charts. Gerald is also thankful for the recognition given to him by several award-giving bodies. He was named Best New TV Male Personality in 2007’s Star Awards and Guillermo Memorial’s Most Popular Loveteam of 2007. A follow-up TV project with Kim is coming up with Maligno and My Girl. This year is one of the best birthdays for Gerald as he celebrated with the Kimerald fans with cancer patients. The Kimerald BAO also treated Gerald for a surprise dinner party. Gerald can’t ask for more and remain humble for all his achievements. Bench endorser Gerald will soon be seen in two more TV commercials very soon. He celebrated his birthday on March 7.

Gerald Anderson stays with his manager and Star Magic
Dinno Erece ( PEP ) 03.27.08
Getting to be more gorgeous si Gerald Anderson as he faced the press once again for the birthday press con of March-born talents ng Star Magic. The PBB teen from GenSan turned 19 last March 7.

Bukod sa upcoming Maligno—kung saan magkatambal muli sila ni Kim Chiu at makakasama nila sina Claudine Barretto, Diether Ocampo, at Rafael Rossel—it was officially announced that Gerald will still play the leading man of Kim in the upcoming local version of the Korean soap My Girl.

STAYING WITH HIS MANAGER. During a one-on-one talk with Gerald, PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) asked him a sensitive question about an issue that has been churning around him and his manager-discoverer, entertainment columnist Jun Reyes.

"For one, my father doesn't meddle with my career. He's just there to guide me and support me and accompany me once in a while sa mga out of town tapings. Wala kaming problema ni Kuya Jun, I don't know where they got that. Last year pa lang tinatanong na po yan sa akin."

We reminded Gerald na last year, ang kuwestiyon sa kanya kung gagaya rin ba siya kay Joross na magbu-bolt out kay Jun. It was around that time during his birthday month din nang tumiwalag si Joross kay Jun.

"But we don't have a problem with my manager. I will stay with him and with Star Magic," sabi ni Gerald.

Like all stars under the Star Magic department of ABS-CBN na may manager, co-management ang contract.

Last question kay Gerald, kapag nagtapos ba ang kontrata nila ni Jun, will he sign up again with him?

"Yes," ang sagot ni Gerald.

Veronica R. Samio ( Pilipino Star Ngayon ) 03.27.08

Roommates sina Gerald at Matt.

From among the new batch of teen housemates na nasa loob ng Bahay ni Kuya, hangang-hanga raw si Gerald Anderson kay Priscilla.

Yup, the 16-year-old na bingi who, despite her physical defect, ay willing to do anything to pursue her dream.

“She’s an inspiration to all of us,” ani Gerald. “She’s not allowing her disability to stop her from doing everything na dapat maranasan ng isang normal na teenager.

“I like her and I hope mapasama siya sa Top Four,” susog pa ni Gerald.

The latter emerged first runner-up to Kim Chiu in the first Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition.

Ganunpaman, this was well compensated with so many things he learned as a housemate, lalo na ang tungkol sa pakikisama sa mga kabataang kasing-edad niya.

Hanggang ngayon, I still keep in touch with them,” tukoy pa ni Gerald.

Eh, si Kim, now his ka-loveteam, how did he feel about her while inside Kuya’s house?

We click together well.

Now a wakeboarding enthusiast, Gerald, together with good friend Joross Gamboa often go para mag-wakeboard sa Lagro de Oro, Batangas.

Gerald agrees that wakeboarding is a dangerous sport. But one has to be really careful dahil the thrill he/she gets habang nagwe-wakeboard is truly overwhelming.

When Gerald turned 19 last March 7, Kim gifted him with a wakeboard.

The two will soon be seen together sa teleseryeng Maligno, which stars Claudine Barretto.

Dinno Erece ( Journal Online ) 03.27.08

Gerald Anderson is still being co-managed by both his discoverer Jun Reyes and his home station na Star Magic.

Getting cuter and sexier ang isa sa first PBB Teen winners na si Gerald as he turned older celebrating his 19th birthday last March 7. No, wala pa rin siyang planong magpa-sexy at nagpapasalamat siya sa Star Magic, he is not being asked to go to that kind of thing pa raw.

Anyways, during the Holy Week, we heard a rather disturbing news na binili raw ng kanyang ama secretly sa kanyang manager ang management right nito to the tune of half a million pesos.

He stays with Jun and also to Star Magic as artist.

He is happy with the set up at contrary sa iba pang naglalabasang balita, wala silang problema ni Jun.

Kung si Gerald na ang nagsasalita, who are we to argue, Lyka?

Gerald Anderson : "Promise, wala akong kilalang Alyanna Tan na 15 years old."
Melba Llanera ( PEP ) 03.26.08

NOT TRUE.

"Promise, wala akong kilalang Alyanna Tan na fifteen years old," tanggi ng young actor.

Our relationship is still the same, ganun pa rin kami.

Tatay niya yung last dance niya, I'll give it to her dad.

MY GIRL.

"Ganun talaga, you can't please everyone," saad niya. Sam is a good guy, siya nga kumanta nung ‘My Girl' [theme song] before.

"Basta right this moment, I'm overwhelmed.

"Nandun ako sa opening and I can say ang aastig nila. Hindi ako nate-threatened or nagwo-worry because alam ko naman na kami talaga ang first. Kahit na ilan pa ang dumating, at least we're the first edition of PBB teens," pahayag ni Gerald.

Kimerald: Still the hottest teen loveteam to beat
Reyma Buan-Deveza ( ABS-CBN News Online )
Contrary to rumors, teen stars Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson say their love team isn’t splitting up--in fact, they're saying that it's now stronger than ever.

The two have become so inseparable and compatible as a love team that their fans eventually merged their names into "Kimerald" ala Hollywood couples Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner ("Bennifer") and Brad Pitt with wife Angelina Jolie ("Brangelina").

"Ayaw po muna namin na magkahiwalay, gusto po namin na kami pa din yung mag-partner," the young actress Chiu told abs-cbnNews.com in an exclusive interview inside the ABS-CBN compound.

"Mas komportable kami sa isat isa, mag-trabaho umarte," Anderson added.

And to prove their strong partnership, two big projects are already lined up for them this first quarter of 2008, including the horror series "Maligno" on ABS-CBN.

The two even shared that they constantly help each other out during tapings, making sure that they are ready when time comes to deliver their lines.

Anderson on the other hand bared some details on their working relationship with the rest of the cast, especially with the series lead star Claudine Barretto.

A few days ago, the new season of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition was launched and some say new teen stars will rise from that batch just like Anderson and Chiu did.

The two became the biggest stars of the previous season of PBB Teen Edition and they say they are not worried about possible competition from the new batch.

In the past two years when their "Kimerald" tandem became a hit, they've had two blockbuster movies, a top-rating teleserye, several television shows and countless endorsements, proving that they found their rightful place in showbiz.

Pinoy "My Girl"

And just recently, they were thrilled about being chosen to star in the the Pinoy version of the hit Koreanovela "My Girl."

"I really had no idea. I just prayed that I will be given a new project. Then it happened!" Chiu exclaimed. The teen star wasn’t able to hide her joy and she literally cried during a press conference where she learned that she was chosen to play the lead role in the said project.

But before doing "My Girl," Kimerald will first illuminate the small screen as part of the stellar cast in the second featured presentation of Sineserye Presents: the Susan Roces Cinema Collection: the project will be the television remake of the horror flick "Maligno" with lead stars Claudine Barretto and Diether Ocampo.

Fans will see a different Kimerald tandem in "Maligno", for they will be playing mature roles in this mini-series.

"It’s quite challenging because the story is different from the light romance that Kim and I played before. It’s horror and is very dark so serious acting is really required of us," Anderson said.

"We are always together in this series Gerald is my cameraman and I'm a reporter. My character as Eliza, I'm trainee reporter and I really idolize Ms. Claudine who is also a reporter but a very good reporter," Chiu said.

"Dito yung character namin hindi siya pa-cute kasi nag-work siya dito for a purpose.

At the rate that their careers are going, the young stars have no reason to feel threatened with the new faces in PBB Teen Season 2.

Catch their loveteam as they pursue bolder roles in the horror series "Maligno," haunting the TV screens this coming April on Sineserye Presents: the Susan Roces Cinema Collection on ABS-CBN.

Kim , still smarting from her first heartbreak, is hesitant about falling in love again, even with perennial partner Gerald
Ethel Ramos ( Malaya )

Kim Chiu sets the record straight that she and Gerald Anderson are sweethearts. They’re not, not yet. In due time, they might become more than friends. Right now though, Kim says she has few male friends and she considers Gerald as one of her closest.

She is a bit careful about falling in love again. She was hurt before. It is common knowledge that before joining "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition," she had a boyfriend. But they broke up before she became a housemate in Bahay ni Kuya.

She was 14 at that time. Ten months after they became sweethearts, they split-up.

"Nasaktan ako sa break-up namin," she relates. "But I’d rather not divulge the real reason why we parted ways. Sa akin na lang ‘yun."

What would she remember most about the guy?

"He was my first kiss. Pero hindi ako nagsisisi kung nangyari man iyon dahil mahal ko siya that time."

She no longer sees the guy, she reveals. If they do meet, she would treat him as a friend. But she is not considering reconciling with him, should he want to win her back.

“Wala talaga, as in wala akong idea at all.

KIM STARSTRUCK WITH CLAUDINE
Aster Amoyo ( Journal Online )

Contrary to rumors, the love team of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson isn’t breaking up but is becoming stronger than ever. For the first quarter of 2008, two big projects are already lined up for them. This includes the horror series Maligno on ABS-CBN.

A few days to go and it’s the start of a new season for Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition. New faces will be discovered, and new teen stars will be made. But the two biggest products of the show’s last season, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson aren’t worried that they will be steered away from the limelight.

Their tandem has come a long way, and in the two years that they were in the business, Kim and Gerald proved to be worthy of the opportunities that were given to them. Two blockbuster movies, a top-rating teleserye, several TV shows and countless endorsements only prove that the two have their rightful place in the industry.

Recently, they were delighted about being chosen to do the Pinoy version of the hit Koreanovela My Girl, which will be aired on ABS-CBN. “I really had no idea. I just prayed na mabigyan ako ng bagong project. Tapos ayun, nagkatotoo nga!,” Kim exclaimed. The young star wasn’t able to hide her joy that she cried in the press conference where she learned that she was chosen to play the lead role in the show.

Meanwhile, fans will see a different Kim and Gerald in Maligno, for they will be playing mature roles in this mini-series. “It’s quite challenging because the story is different from the light romance that Kim and I played before. It’s horror and is very dark so serious acting is really required of us,” Gerald said.

Kim is nervous and excited to do this project, since she will be working with her idol, Claudine Barretto. “Idol ko po talaga si Ms. Claudine, until now I am still starstruck in her presence. Kapag kinakausap niya ako hindi ako makasagot. But it is my dream to be in a show with her,” she confessed.

Kim and Gerald pursue bolder roles in Maligno
ABS-CBN Interactive

After surviving their extraordinary experience on Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson have indeed come a long way as a love team with two block-buster movies, a top-rating teleserye, several TV shows and countless endorsements to boot. Rumors on a possible split-up of their tandem however are making waves as some fans clamor for Sam Milby to become Kim’s leading man on the upcoming remake of the popular Koreanovela, My Girl.

But it seems the ever-loyal Kimerald aficionados will still have their way especially now that their idols are actually busy shooting Maligno, the second sineserye from the Susan Roces Cinema Collection following the success of Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara. The two teen icons are excited as they deliver a more mature portrayal of their characters in this mini-series. "It’s quite challenging because the story is different from the light romance that Kim and I played before. It’s horror and is very dark so serious acting is really required of us," says Gerald. On the other hand, Kim is thrilled to finally work with the highly-acclaimed actress Claudine Barretto. "Idol ko po talaga si Ms. Claudine, until now I’m still starstruck in her presence. Kapag kinakausap niya ko hindi ako makasagot. But it is my dream to be in a show with her."

Catch the hottest teen love team in the country on Sineserye Presents: Maligno showing this April only on ABS-CBN.

Gerald is all grown up
ABS-CBN Interactive

Fresh from his first trip back to his hometown in Missouri, USA, since the first Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition ended, Gerald Anderson is definitely one happy camper. "Sobrang sarap. I was happy to see my relatives. I haven't seen them for years. Masaya doon. Probinsya na yun. I visited my old high school. I stayed for a week. I also did a little bit of shopping. Pero mostly sa bahay lang with my parents," he recalls.

Now that he’s back in Manila, the young actor is busy with juicy projects like the upcoming horror series "Maligno" with Claudine Barretto and Diether Ocampo. "It's a little scary doing it because it's horror. But I've become more comfortable on the set na than before when I was just starting out in showbiz," he admits.

Off-cam, Gerald busies himself with sports like basketball and wakeboarding, the latter being a new hobby he took up with his kabarkadas Joross Gamboa and Matt Evans. “I just started getting into it. Joross influenced me to do it in Lago de Oro. It was very hard. Nung first day, hindi ako makatayo. It takes time and patience. If I have time, I really wanna make time for it," he stresses.

Gerald spends the rest of his free time with rumored ladylove Kim Chiu, his constant companion on their days off. "We hang out. Nanunuod kami ng sine. We like watching Star Cinema movies. Ok naman kami. Mas close kami ngayon," he explains.

Gerald is also enjoying his independence with his parents away in the US. Gerald shares how it was living by himself for the very first time. "Okay naman pala. I order out a lot. My favorite is pizza, pasta, and burgers. I don't know how to cook," he shyly admits. The teen actor also shares his plans of going back to school this coming June. "I'm finally going back to school na. Home study kasi ako. Fourth year high school level. But I haven't got any college plans yet. I'm trying to save up for that pa," he says.

Despite being the teen idol he is today, Gerald is still the same down-to-earth guy from Gensan that he was when he first started out two years ago. In fact, he is so thankful to his fans that he makes sure to cherish every little thing he receives from them. "I keep everything, lahat-lahat. It’s all around the house. Because I know that after this is all done, it'll be nice to look back. I've gotten pictures, letters, toys, and even a flat-screen TV and a laptop," he admits. The laptop was a gift from a Sana Maulit Muli fan from Canada who flew in with her family just to catch the premiere of his movie with Kim, I’ve Fallen For You.

For the new set of teen housemates arriving this week, Gerald has some words of advice he'd like to share. "Just be yourself. Siguro kasi yun yung ginawa namin. Be nice to others. Kasi it’s not a show where you just act, you shouldn't act. Before I entered the house, I was excited pero kinakabahan din. Sobra-sobra. Mas kinakabahan kesa excited. But after the first two days, okay na. Everything was okay na. Sa tingin ko, ganun din mangyayari for them," he says.

In the meantime, this 19-year-old cutie is having the time of his life. "I'm happy. I've been happy. Ang dami kong ginawa na mga projects din so I'm content with my life right now," he sums it up for us. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

Malayo na ang narating ni Kim Chiu
Boy Abunda (Pinoy Parazzi )

Nagkaroon ng agreement between ABS-CBN and SBS, the producer of “My Girl” in Korea, para sa local version ng nasabing Koreanovela. “My Girl” was a phenomenal success when it was aired in South Korea from 2005 to 2006. The series starred famous Korean celebrities Lee Dong-Wook, Lee Da-Hae, Lee Joon-Ki, and Park Shi-Yeon. In 2006, “My Girl” was dubbed in Tagalog and broadcast on ABS-CBN. The romantic comedy is about the love story of Jasmine, an impostor proficient in the English, Chinese, and Japanese languages; and Julian who is the heir of a big corporation. To fulfill his grandfather’s last wish to see his long-lost grand daughter before he dies, Julian is forced to ask Jasmine to act as his cousin. They are bound to keep a lie that no one in the family knows. However, things get complicated when they unexpectedly fall in love with each other.

Malayo na ang narating ni Kim since she emerged as the big winner of “Pinoy Big Brother 1st Teen Edition.” Aside from her two blockbuster films “First Day High” and “I’ve Fallen for You,” Kim also appeared in several ABS-CBN shows including the top-rating teleserye “Sana Maulit Muli,” opposite Gerald Anderson. Kasalukuyang ipinapalabas sa Taiwan ang “Sana Maulit Muli,” which is dubbed in Mandarin. Kim is also a product endorser and a recording artist with her first album “Gwa Ai Di” under Star Records.

18-year-old Kim Chiu has been chosen to play the female lead in the ABS-CBN Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean novela My Girl

SHE’S UNDENIABLY one of today’s most sought-out teen stars.

But with Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus-and the arrival of a new batch of would-be stars-can Kim Chiu possibly stay on top? The answer is yes as ABS-CBN announced she had been chosen to play the female lead in the network’s upcoming Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean novela My Girl.

Since she had no idea that she was among those being considered for the role, the news took her by surprise-so much so, in fact, that she burst into tears after the announcement had been made. “Are you kidding me?” she asked. The disbelief was evident in the 18-year-old’s voice, which trembled slightly as she added, “This is a joke, right?”

Singer-songwriter Yeng Constantino, who was there to promote the second season of Pinoy Dream Academy, handed Kim a tissue and patted her gently on the back. “Boy, you’re really surprised, huh?” she said, her eyes dancing with amusement. “I just can’t believe it,” Kim said after wiping her eyes and taking a deep breath.

Those words pretty much sum up her feelings towards the way her life has changed after she won Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition in 2006. Since then, she has released an album, starred in two hit movies-First Day High and I’ve Fallen For You-and a wide array of shows, all of which helped her build a strong following.

When asked to name the most memorable show she’s worked on, she said, “Definitely Sana Maulit Muli. No contest. It was my first lead role in a teleserye-and on Primetime Bida, no less!” Sana Maulit Muli, the soap opera she headlined with fellow Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition alumnus Gerald Anderson, was a ratings smash. Thanks to TFC, news of the show’s success reached other Asian countries, which prompted the big bosses of a Taiwanese network to secure the rights to air it in their country.

When told that the show was earning rave reviews from the TV-watching public in Taiwan, Kim was thrilled. “Wow, that’s awesome! I’d like to thank everyone over there for their support. I’ve never been there before, but I guess now would be a good time to visit, right?” she giggles.

It would indeed. Some people have also said that now, with the impending arrival of a new batch of teen housemates, would be a good time for Kim to improve her game- that is, develop new talents or hone the ones she already has-so she can keep her head above water. She agrees, which is why she is equal parts ecstatic and grateful that she has My Girl to look forward to. But that doesn’t mean she sees the new teen housemates as a threat.

ABS-CBN Interactive

Young heartthrob Gerald Anderson welcomed the year by moving to a new place within Quezon City and who else would he invite to come over and see his newfound haven than his love team Kim Chiu. “Yeah pero kasama (ang) tatay niya,” Gerald says with a smile. “They just checked out the place kung saan ako lumipat.

In contrast to the rumors about him courting various girls in and out of showbiz, Gerald says that he maintains a good relationship with Kim’s father. “We don’t listen to what people say. We’re just really close. Mabait (siya),” he shares. Gerald saya that he sometimes gets to bond with the Chius, like hanging out with them at the mall. He even calls Kim’s father “’Tay,” the same term of endearment Kim uses to call her dad.

He is happy to be treated as family by Kim and her father and vice versa. The rest of Kim’s family is based in Cebu and only has her dad to look over her here in Manila. On the other hand, Gerald definitely appreciates a “father figure” since his dad is in the United States with a family of his own. The former PBB teen housemate even went to the US last Christmas just to spend time with his dad and other younger siblings.

As summer nears, Gerald is hoping that he could go to Boracay as he has never been there before and hopes that he could go with Kim. Gerald’s not so much into the party scene and would rather spend time at the beach, exploring or doing water sports. He even admits that he has only been out to a club once. “Hindi ako mahilig sa ganyan,” he explains.

Gerald will appear soon in the upcoming sinerserye Maligno, together with Kim, Diether Ocampo, Rafael Rosell, Ara Mina, and Claudine Barretto.

How a reality show made Kim today’s teen princess
Manila Standard Today

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition big winner Kim Chiu is undeniably the hottest and most sought after teen star today. From soaps, movies, endorsements and even recording, this formerly known as the Chinese cutie from Cebu sure knows how to represent.

I am very happy with all the blessings that are coming my way. I wouldn’t be able to have them and do all the things that I have been dreaming to do if it were not for PBB),” said Kim.

Kim entered PBB when she was only 16 years old. And before she could even face the challenges inside the house, she was already battling some issues outside.

“Naghiwalay kasi parents ko and since then, medyo nawala yung dati naming marangyang buhay and I have to deal with my stepmom din na dati di ko masyado kasundo. (My parents broke up… and it was never the same with our life…. I had to contend with my stepmother and we’re not okay. It was a difficult stage in my life),” she confessed.

Holding on to her dream of being seen on TV and her sheer determination to prove herself, Kim bravely took on every task given to her despite hardships dealing with personal issues. In the end, it was all worth it as her efforts paid off and she was declared PBB Teen Edition Big Winner— a very significant moment for Kim that gave her a new life and a new beginning.

So many things have changed in my life, and after PBB I have built a career. Now I am able to help my family, which is one of my goals when I joined the search).”

Since then, she never stopped working with all the projects she is lined up to do, one of which is the upcoming sine-serye Maligno.

Kim currently helps her parents in her sibling’s education. She proudly shared that she was able to invest in a car now out of her own hard work.

I am really very happy, because I am where I think is too soon for a lot of people).”

Kim also expressed how thankful she is for the changes that happened to her as a person while she was inside the PBB house. Now, she can easily open herself to other people, has become more independent, more vocal on her thoughts and feelings, and most especially she was able to discover who she really is.

With the re-opening of Kuya’s doors to a new batch of teen housemates, many lives will again change and many dreams will again be fulfilled.

Who are the final 12 teen housemates this season? Why were they chosen by Kuya? What tasks did Kuya give them to prove that they are worthy to go inside the famous house?

The grand launch of PBB Teen Edition Plus will be on March 23, and will be hosted by Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzalez, Mariel Rodriguez and Luis Manzano.

Kim headlines Korea novela remake

WHILE everyone is wondering who will be the Filipino actress to play the lead female role in the local adaptation of Betty La Fea, young actress Kim Chiu blindsided us with the announcement that she will play the lead in the Filipinization of the Korean series My Girl.

Kim is ecstatic over the opportunity. In fact, she found out that she had been chosen for the role just moments before I got to talk to her in the “Dream Big Kapamilya” presscon featuring her as the grand winner of the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition. She cried in happiness over the news and was understandably giddy as she talked to me.

Congratulations on the good news! You’re playing the lead role in My Girl....

(Giggles) It’s really welcome news. I can’t believe that they’re entrusting me with such a big role. I heard that ABS-CBN was considering other female actresses but I prayed hard that the role would be given to me. God really listens to prayers….

Were you a fan of the Koreanovela when it was first shown here?

Yes! Very much! The character is very interesting. She comes off as wacky and goofy, but with a big heart. I’m really so excited.

This project reunites you with your reel partner Gerald Anderson. Are you looking forward working with him?

I am. Gerald and I already have a good working relationship.

But if Gerald won’t be chosen, who would you want to play opposite you?

Can it be Sam (Milby)? He’s very cute! (Laughs)

Why not? You’ve already gone through a lot for such a young woman. To whom do you attribute your current success?

God and my family. God has been so very kind and my family has always supported me. Of course, there’s ABS-CBN and Star Magic and, naturally, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition, because that’s where it all started.

Speaking of which, a new edition is coming up. What can you say about that?

It’s very exciting. I can’t wait to see the new teen housemates. I’ve always been a fan of the show, no matter what edition. And now there’s a new batch, I know I would always stay glued to the show. It’s really fascinating to watch people who don’t know each other and how they would interact and react to situations.

Any tips for them?

Just be themselves and have fun. Ultimately, it’s a game, but the experience and the lessons you learn from being a housemate are incomparable. It’s priceless and no matter what your place is, you’re a winner.

Are you still in touch with the other housemates?

Yes. We all bonded inside the house.

Of course, you’re closest to Gerald. He recently celebrated his birthday. What was your gift for him?

A wakeboard.

Did you know that that was the same gift that Angelica Panganiban gave to her boyfriend Derek Ramsey for his birthday?

Oh my! (Laughs) I don’t know! (Laughs again)

Maybe that’s a sign that you can finally be the girlfriend of Gerald and be as open as Angelica and Derek when it comes to your relationship!

I don’t know! I don’t know!

From the day that she first entered the Pinoy Big Brother house, the Chinese cutie from Cebu -- Kim Chiu proved that she is worth watching.

Chiu, who started her career when she joined PBB Teen Edition, said she’s overwhelmed by all the blessings she is getting right now. She is undeniably one of the hottest and most sought after teen stars today, with lots of projects involving television, movies, endorsements and record deals.

The young star said that she owes everything she has right now to ABS-CBN's Pinoy Big Brother.

"I'm really happy, I'm receiving so many blessings and I won't be able to have all of these if not for PBB," Kim told members of entertainment media at a press conference held at 9501 Restaurant inside ABS-CBN's compound.

Chiu joined PBB when she was only 16 years old. Before she faced challenges inside the Big Brother house, she was already battling some issues in her own home.

"My parents separated and since then I almost lost everything, the luxury of life... plus the fact that I have to deal with my stepmom that before I really don't know how to cope with it. So those times were really hard for me," she confessed.

Holding on to her dream of being an actress with the determination to prove herself, Chiu joined Pinoy Big Brother. In the end, all her efforts paid off and she was declared the big winner of PBB Teen Edition.

Her winning moment was very significant for Chiu. She said it gave her a new life and a new beginning.

"There's really a big change in my life after I joined the PBB because right after that my projects were overflowing, I have my career and I can now help my family, it's my number one goal that's why I joined the program."

Chiu also said she would not be where she is right now without her fans, and that she is immensely grateful to hem. "To my fans I owe everything to you guys, everything that is happening to me now; because without your support I won't be here," she said.

Chiu is busy promoting "PBB Teen Edition Plus". The show's primer will air on Sunday, March 16 at 9:45 in the evening, and its official kick off day will be on Sunday, March 23.

She will also be starring in the Tagalog television version of Korea's hit series "My Girl" with her onscreen partner Gerald Anderson.
