Kim Chiu makes Cosmo debut
Ingrid Villafuerte ( PEP ) 04.07.09
People who are used to seeing Kim Chiu on the cover of teeny-bopper magazines are in for a surprise this April, as Kim poses on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine for the first time. She may not strike everyone as the type to be on the cover of Cosmo, but the Cosmo team says, “Kim’s youthful charm betrays the courage and inner strength that have propelled her to where she is right now.”

Like many little girls, Kim had once dreamed of seeing herself on television. “Dream ko talagang makita sa TV. Kahit mag-wave-wave lang sa TV Patrol, masaya na ako na nakita ko ‘yung sarili ko sa TV,” she tells Cosmo, recalling a time when TV Patrol Cebu visited her school and she had simply waved to the camera. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought that she would be one of the most successful stars in her generation, with a string of blockbuster movies and hit primetime teleseryes to her name.

Kim is so dedicated to her work, she won’t even entertain a romance between onscreen partner and off-screen best friend Gerald Anderson. Why she won’t make things official between them, she says, “Ayoko. Natatakot ako eh. Siyempre gusto ko yung career ko. Ayoko muna matapos siya. And, kailangan ko kasi ng trabaho kasi may mga kapatid pa ako.”

Pressed to set the record straight, she tells Cosmo, “Hindi kami ni Gerald. TV lang ‘yon. Close lang [kami] pero not really sobrang on. Kilala na niya ako, kilala ko rin siya. ‘Pag may problema, sinusumbong ko sa kanya. Walang commitment.”

Her friendship with Gerald is clearly very important, as she says, “Siya lang kasi yung close ko na friend dito sa Manila.” Growing up in the province had made it difficult for Kim to find friends outside of showbiz. This is why she says, “Non-showbiz friends ko ang mga fans. Sila lang ang kilala kong non-showbiz.”
