Kimerald tandem is come-on of ‘My Girl’

Here’s another first from the Kapamilya Network, a localized version of the hit Koreanovela "My Girl."

ABS–CBN signed up recently with SBS Korea to make a Philippine version of the drama series.

Starring in "My Girl" are Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu, more popularly known as the Kimerald tandem. It is a loveteam that is "cute, fresh and young, and definitely has that ‘kilig’ factor so it’s a tandem that’s not bad to gamble on," said a production executive in charge of "My Girl." The Kimerald tandem has been proven via the teleserye "Sana Maulit Muli" which has been dubbed in different languages and which was also a big hit in Taiwan. It will also be shown in Cambodia and Vietnam soon.

Gerald, who’s among the most handsome and talented among Star Magic talents, is very excited about his role. He has seen "My Girl" and he likes Julian, who’s a strong character, he said.

Gerald is only 19 but in the forthcoming teleserye, he’ll be playing a much older guy. Asked how he’ll be able to tackle such a role, Gerard said "I’ll be attending an acting workshop for this, and I’ll also do something to improve my physique by going to the gym," he said. And if he can relate to the role, it’s because he would like to run his own business, maybe a restaurant, someday.

His role as Julian in "My Girl," which is expected to be a big hit in the country and also around Asia, is that of a post-college yuppie who comes home to take care of their family’s business. It would be a role that’s quite serious and to provide Gerald with the necessary corporate image, the production team in charge of the teleserye has tapped the services of two top designers.

Chinese Cutie Kim Chiu was chosen as the leading lady (Jasmine) who was surprised and even cried during the announcement at the Dream Big Press Con. In terms of who would be her partner, it was the talk of the town as people had their own speculations on who would luckily land the part. The role was indeed meant for Gerald Anderson.

Not long after being known to the public, various projects came pouring in, from his starring role in "Sana Maulit Muli" to the fantaserye "Love Spell Presents: Cindy-rella." And now, "My Girl," the newest series people will go crazy over.

Having been part of two movies, "First Day High" and "I’ve Fallen For You," Gerald became one of the most in demand artist in TV guestings and endorsements not only because of his popularity and talent but also due to his wholesome image as a role model.

Cast of "My Girl" all set to shoot

The cast of ABS-CBN's upcoming television series are now busy preparing for the local version of the hit Koreanovela, "My Girl."

Teen stars Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson with the rest of the cast: Enchong Dee, Cathy Gonzaga, Regine Angeles, Nina Jose and new talent David Chua recently had their Korean-style sexy pictorial in a beach set-up.

They are also working on improving their craft.

"Nagwo-workshop po kami at saka si Gerald," Kim Chiu told abs-cbnNEWS.com inside the ABS-CBN compound.

The cast members are excited since they are getting to know each other, and having fun while bonding.

But aside from having fun, they are getting ready for their special characterization for their individual roles.

Viewers can expect the stars to be fully prepared for a great performance.

Chiu said that after her last taping day for the horror series "Maligno" with Claudine Barretto, they will start to shoot for "My Girl."

During a previous press conference, Chiu got a shock when she learned that she had landed the lead role in "My Girl."

"My Girl" is ABS-CBN's first franchise drama from SBS Korea. The series is a story of love and friendship.

Kim and Gerald will do it!

The tandem of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson is one of the most endearing ones in showbizness. Maybe the most endearing of this current generation of young actors. I’ve declared it a million times that I’m a fan of the loveteam. Call me baduy and cheap but I don’t care. I love seeing the two together because they look good together.

Kim and Gerald proved their clout when their soap opera Sana Maulit Muli lorded over the ratings. I remember when that show started. Hopes weren’t that high and expectations were low since Kim and Gerald’s stardom wasn’t even proven then. Sure they made it big in PBB teens and they have a horde of screaming fans who follow them everywhere even if they go to Jupiter but that time, it didn’t still prove anything.

Until Sana Maulit Muli became a certified hit.

Since then, people considered the Kimerald tandem a force to reckon with.

Now that both are awarded the lead role in the Philippine adaptation of My Girl, many people, Showbuzzer included are so happy and excited for the two. Of course some are crying and wailing that the two wouldn’t be able to give justice to the show but let’s give them a chance OK?

The question is, since the roles in the Koreanovela are more mature than what Kim and Gerald normally do, what will they do to prepare for the role? Eh diba may kissing scenes dun? Or since the characters are mature, will they have a love scene!??!

Anyway, if that were true, I don’t care. Maybe it’s time that the two showcase what they have and we give them a chance to grow up. After all, they can’t be cutesy-patootsy forever no!
