ABS-CBN has once again trusted the love team of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson for an upcoming mini-series that will add color to viewers' Sunday afternoons starting October 14.
Love Spell will now be shown for a longer period (instead of four weeks, the mini-series will run for 13 weeks) and will be back on its previous timeslot (from 11:15 am slot to an afternoon slot of 3:15 pm before The Buzz).
Kim and Gerald starred in the pilot mini-series of Love Spell. Their tandem was such a hit among televiewers that they also played in two other Love Spell mini-series. Now, these two young actors return to captivate their fans as they bring to life the famous fairy tale, Cinderella, but with a twist of reality in Love Spell: Cindy-rella.
Kim said she was excited when she knew about this project. “Sobrang natutuwa po ako kasi pinapanood ko lang yung Cinderella noong bata ako. Tapos po sa Love Spell, ako yung gaganap na Cindy-rella.
“At saka nakakatuwa din kasi kami ni Gerald yung nag-pilot nung unang Love Spell na for four weeks. Tapos ngayon, kami po ang pinagkatiwalaan na mag-pilot ng 13 weeks ng Love Spell.”
CINDERELLA WITH A TWIST. Ruben Bayani, one of the directors of “Cindy-rella” said that their adaptation of the the classic fairy tale Cinderella would be different from its other versions.
He explained, “Well, ang Cinderella ay isang napaka-classic na soap opera plotline kaya ang dalas niyang puwedeng i-revisit at i-interpret. Kasi nga mayaman yung concept na yan so nagagawa siyang comedy, nagagawa siyang suspense, nagagawa siyang heavy drama.
“For Love Spell, dahil ito’y nagke-cater sa Sunday afternoon viewers, light talaga na may pagka-cartoons na animated. Hindi siya na-design para maging depressing or maging dark kasi masaya siyang panoorin. In line with sa look ng successful na show ng Love Spell na may comedy, may fantasy, may music, ganun din ang Love Spell na ito. Maraming nakakatawang sitwasyon, may effects, may magic, may music.”
THE PLOT. Love Spell: “Cindy-rella” begins in the fairy tale world, where Prince William (John James Uy) is celebrating his 21st birthday. His uncle invites all the ladies in the kingdom to a ball, hoping to find a wife for his nephew. Among those invited is the pretty, kindhearted Cindy-rella (Kim), but on the night of the ball, her evil stepsisters and stepmother tear her clothes and lock her in the basement.
Cindy-ella's fairy godmother comes to the rescue and enables her to go to the ball in a fancy dress and carriage. But she warns that Cindy-ella should be home by midnight or she'll be caught back in her usual filthy clothes.
The story goes on until after the prince chooses Cindy as his dancing partner. Her wicked family grows envious and throws her into a well, which links the fairytale world and the real world. The poor lass comes into the real world unconscious; fortunately, she is saved by a modern-day prince charming, Albert (Gerald).
He falls in love with her, so he helps Cindy-rella survive in the real world. But can they be together when they belong to different worlds? Will Cindy choose Albert, a normal human being, over a dashing prince in the fairytale realm? Will there be a happy ending for Cindy-ella?
THE CHARACTERS. The press noticed that Sheryl Cruz was included as one of the cast members. Sheryl is associated with GMA-7 as an effective kontrabida in Mga Mata ni Anghelita and Bakekang.
The media asked, “Did you really have to import an actress from another network to play the role of the evil step mother? How did you base your casting of characters?”
Sheryl is just as wonderful as a step mom kasi nga mahirap kung ibang actress, magiging parang serious, na heavy drama, na maldita siya. Ang hirap i-capture ng nuances ng comedy, nung pagiging animated, na parang cartoons. So yun, kina-casting sila kung gaano sila kabagay dun sa roles na meron yung story.”
Meanwhile, the other actors that will fulfill the magical story of Cindy-rella are Ms. Pilita Corrales, Jackie Lou Blanco, Andrew E, Sheryn Regis, Mara Lopez, Kiray Celis, Hyubs Azarcon, and Jeffrey Tam. This show will also introduce Be Bench finalist John James Uy.
Fall in love with Kim and Gerald in the comedy-fantasy series of Love Spell titled “Cindy-rella,” starting Sunday, October 14, before The Buzz on ABS-CBN.
