Kim Chiu says a love life is not included in her birthday wishes

While she’s already turning 19 on April 19, Kim Chiu says that she is still not looking for any romantic attachments. During her birthday press conference on April 16, the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Big Winner confirms that her continuously flourishing career remains her priority. Her birthday wish was even about her career and family with no mention of finding Mr. Right.

Even when love could be knocking on her door with constant leading man Gerald Anderson publicly declaring his “special feelings” for her and his willingness to bring their relationship to the next level, Kim refuses to make a commitment. She says that a mutual understanding between them is enough for now. “Mabuti na ‘yung ganito,” Kim says of their MU status. “Gusto daw niya (Gerald) ako, gusto ko rin siya. Pero ayoko lang ng saraduhan (commitment) na totodo na. Maganda na ‘yung ganito.” Like in her previous interviews, she explains that getting into a commitment may just jeopardize their working relationship.

With her refusal to commit, isn’t Kim worried about Gerald courting someone else? “Okay lang naman ‘yun kung gusto niya sa iba. Okay lang, teenager naman siya, eh. hindi naman ako asawa niya para pigilan siya,” the actress explains. As a matter of fact, Gerald has been linked to other female celebrities, like Pauleen Luna and Empress Schuck. But Kim says that she and Gerald have talked about these issues and he has assured her that they are not true. Kim adds that has no doubts about Gerald’s sincerity because she knows him.

Kim also reveals that Gerald has assured her that he will wait until she is ready for a commitment. “Sabi niya aantayin naman niya ako. Bata pa siya. Tsaka mabait naman din siya, eh,” she shares. “Sabi ko, ‘Sige kung kaya mong maghintay kung hanggang kelan ko kayang maging ganito.’”
Kim though feels sad about the news that Gerald is being eyed as Sarah Geronimo’s next leading man. She says that their love team has been around ever since she and Gerald started working in showbiz and that a separation will be a great challenge for her. “Nalulungkot siyempre kasi, mahihiwalay na ‘yung love team namin tapos ‘di ko alam kung kaya kong mag-isa o mai-pair sa iba. Hindi na rin kami laging magkasama, ganyan,” she explains. But so far, she has not yet heard of any confirmation of this.

In the meantime, Kim will take time to spend her birthday with her family. Her siblings will be coming over from Cebu to celebrate. But her dad who is currently in Mindoro taking care of their business there, may not be able to return in time for her birthday.

While Kim is close with her dad and siblings, she hasn’t heard from her mother for some years now. The young actress says that people encourage her to look at the situation in a positive light. “Sabi nila mas maganda na rin ‘yung ganito na hindi siya nakikigulo. Matagal na panahon na hindi na kami nagkikita,” she admits. If there is anything good that this situation brings, Kim says it serves as a motivation on her acting. “Nakakatulong ang problema na ‘yon sa pag-arte ko. Sa kung ano ako ngayon. Sa pag-arte maraming bagay [ang iniisip ko] mostly sa pamilya at mga kakulangan sa buhay.”
